Special Interest Videos

What is a Special Interest Video?
There are many video programs that don't fall into the categories of movie, documentary or entertainment show. Some of these programs are created for people that want to learn how to do something or want information on a topic of "special interest" to them. They are sometimes refered to as "Specialty Videos", "Instructional Videos" or "How to" videos because people would rather watch a video than try to read how to do something.

For example, if you are trying to obedience train your dog, would it be easier for you to watch a video and actually see how to do it or would you rather read a book about it? Yes, by actually seeing it done you can more quickly and efficiently learn that particular task. Like they say, a picture is worth a thousand words and watching a video is even better. OK so we added that last part, but it's the truth.

To give you a better idea of special interest videos that are available we have listed some topics and categories. One category would be pets. Like in the example above, titles would include how to choose the right dog or cat for your family. You could be interested in housebreaking your dog or cat, and possibly obedience training. Don't forget taking care of fish tanks and how to care for birds or exotic reptiles. There are literally hundreds of special interest videos for pet lovers.

There are special interest videos that teach you how to play and coach sports like football, baseball, soccer and basketball. They cover the sport in general, or will be more specific like how to coach running backs, how to improve your basketball freethrows, or how to hit a baseball.

Another category of special interest videos is health & fitness. Some titles you will find here are about water aerobics, running, pilates, kickboxing, bellydancing workouts, yoga and swimming.

Young drivers may find it helpful to view a video program about how to pass the written DMV test. It would be much easier to study for the test by watching a video than burying your head in a book. It has been said that you can retain much more information by using more of your senses while in the learning process. In other words, if you see it visually, hear the information and read it on the screen, chances are you will retain it better than if you do only one of those (like reading) alone. In some cases the specail interest videos come on an interactive DVD or Blu-ray that can incorporate test questions or different scenarions to keep the viewer engaged and again help the learning process as well as retention.

So whatever your "Special Interest", you can find inexpensive video programs that are fun to watch and get you the information that you are looking for.
